Problem: Cartridge missing or not detected
The cartridge has been installed correctly but the printer is reporting it as missing. The cartridge chip may not be recognised because of dust or debris on its contacts..
Resolution:
Before installation, please follow these instructions on how to clean the cartridge chip
- Remove the packaging from the new cartridge.
- Using the rubber provided, clean the gold contacts on the back of the cartridge.
- Install the new cartridge into your printer.
- Wait until the printer has recognised the cartridge before use.
This process helps to remove any dirt or residue ink on the chip which can cause recognition issues.
Problem: Counterfeit Cartridge Detected
The remanufactured HP 901 cartridge has been installed and the screen states the product is counterfeit or used.
Resolution
- Upon installation the printer has detected the cartridge has been previously used by reading the data stored on the microchip located underneath the cartridge.
- To bypass the Error conduct the following steps:
3. Remove the cartridge, and wipe the gold coloured electrical contacts with a tissue, before reinstalling the cartridge
Problem: Lines on printout
The printer is producing lines in the printout, or bands of colour missing. This could be due to air being trapped in the cartridge printhead.
Resolution
Perform a cleaning cycle designed to remove air trapped in the cartridge's printhead
Problem: Fading on print
The cleaning cycle did not improve the print quality.
Resolution
-
Manual Wipe – Use a moist tissue to wipe the printhead from front to back until you see:
-
Black cartridge: a solid black line
-
Colour cartridge: three clear lines (cyan, magenta, yellow)
Reinstall the cartridge and test print again.
-
- Check Ink Levels – If the cartridge has been used for a while, it may be low or empty.
Problem: Printing blank pages / Fading on print / Incorrect colours being produced
Printouts are coming out very faded or blank, or with the incorrect colours. This could be due to blocked print nozzles caused by dried ink particles or an air lock. To unblock the nozzle, it is required to perform a manual cleaning procedure.
Resolution
-
Dampen a cotton bud with warm water and gently wipe the printhead at the base of the cartridge.
-
Dab the printhead onto clean, absorbent kitchen paper until ink appears:
-
Black cartridge: full black oval shape
-
Colour cartridge: 3 distinct ovals (cyan, magenta, yellow)
-
-
Wipe copper contact points at the back of the cartridge and inside the printer carrier with a dry, lint-free cloth.
