Printer cartridge installation
Compatible HP 203X
  • This image shows the top of the cartridges. Remove the black drum protecting paper before installing.

  • The orange plastic cover on the bottom of the cartridge must be removed before installation.
HP 203X Back View
  • This is the right-hand side of the cartridge. Ensure the chip is clean and free of impurities.

  • Left view shows the side of the orange cover and where you can unclip it.

10.0X.30 Unauthorised Cartridge
  • The administrator has configured this printer to use only genuine HP cartridges.
10.0X.57 Protected Cartridge
  • The cartridge can only be used in the printer or fleet of printers that initially protected it using HP Cartridge Protection.
  • Resolution:
  • Use the printer control panel to disable the Cartridge Policy feature:
  • From the Home screen, touch the Menu icon.
  • Open Supplies > Settings.
  • Disable Authorized HP Cartridge Policy.
  • Please note: Once Cartridge Policy is disabled, the cartridges already installed will no longer work. You should be able to install new compatible cartridges with no issues.
  • If these steps do not disable Cartridge Protection, please contact your network administrator. They can disable this feature via the HP EWS (Embedded Web Server).
Supply Memory Error
  • The chip may be displaced.
  • Please check that the chip is pushed up to the red line shown in the image.

My prints are faded
  • If the print quality is poor, remove the toner cartridge from the printer and gently rock it side to side.
  • This movement helps distribute the toner evenly within the cartridge.
  • After rocking the cartridge 5–6 times, reinsert it and print a test page.
  • If the issue persists, check the life of maintenance items in case they need replacing
I'm seeing streaks on my prints
  • Remove the toner cartridge from the printer and gently rock the cartridge from side to side.
  • This movement helps distribute the toner evenly within the cartridge.
  • Carefully clean the drum roller to remove any excess toner.
  • Re-insert the cartridge into the printer and print a test page.
  • If the problem persists, repeat the previous steps.
There are faint characters on my prints
  • Printouts have faint characters / letters appearing down the page.
  • Print 15–20 pages and see if the problem persists.
