-
With Brother consumables, you have to manually reset the counter
to let the machine know an item has been replaced.
- Make sure the machine is turned on.
- Make sure the machine's cover is open.
- Press Clear — this will bring up the drum reset. Do not follow the steps for this as we want to reset the toner.
- Press Start 10 times until 10 appears on the screen.
- Press OK.
- When the printer shows Accepted on the screen, the count is now reset and the printer should be ready to use.
If you are using a Genuine Toner
-
Turn the cartridge so it is facing you and remove the screws
highlighted below.
-
Remove the cover to reveal the cartridge cogs.
-
Remove the far right and middle cog — see below for how the cartridge
should look with the cogs removed.
-
Rotate the middle cog 180 degrees clockwise so the arrow points
to the 4 o’clock position.
-
Reattach the cogs in the correct slots.
- Re-screw the cover back on and reinsert the cartridge into the printer.

My prints are faded
- If the print quality is poor, remove the toner cartridge from the printer and gently rock it side to side.
- This movement helps distribute the toner evenly within the cartridge.
- After rocking the cartridge 5–6 times, reinsert it and print a test page.
- If the issue persists, check the life of maintenance items in case they need replacing
