Problem: Error (No Toner)

The cartridge is reporting that the toner and drum unit are not installed correctly.

Resolution

Using a white rubber, clean the gold contact plates on the chip, applying firm pressure.
Once finished, wipe away any residue.
Insert the cartridge back into the printer.

Problem: Error (Replace Toner) or Error (Toner Low)

The cartridge is reporting that it is low on ink or reporting the toner needs to be replaced when installing a new unit. The printer needs to be reset.

The following troubleshooting can vary from printer to printer. Please check the correct steps for your printer model below:

Resolution for Brother MCF-L2710DN and MFC-L2710DW

Open the front cover of the printer.
Press Clear and Stop/Exit button at the same time, and quickly, press Clear one more time while still pressing Stop/Exit.
Press the Down arrow button and select K.TNR-HC.
Press OK.
Press the Up-arrow to confirm the rest. An Accepted message should appear on the printer's display. The cartridge should work now.

Note: The front cover needs to remain open during all of these steps

Resolution for Brother HL-L2310D

Open the front cover (you don't have to hold it open, you can rest it down so long as it doesn't fully shut).
Turn the printer off.
Press and hold down the Go button with your finger while turning the printer on. All panel lights should be on.
Press the Go button 2 times.
Pause. All panel lights should be on.
Press the Go button 5 times. The toner light should be off, although the error might be flashing. The paper light should be on flashing.
Close cover. The ready light should be the only light on. The cartridge should be accepted now.

Note: The front cover needs to remain open during all of these steps

Resolution for HL-L2350DW, HL-L2350DW, HL-L2370DN and HL-L2375DW

Open the front cover (you don't have to hold it open, you can rest it down so long as it doesn't fully shut).
Press and hold the Back and Go buttons together for 1-2 seconds, then release. You may have to do this a couple of times for the menu to show. Press back one more time. This step must be done very quickly.
Press the down-arrow button and select TNR-HC.
Press OK to confirm the reset process.
Press the down-arrow button and Accepted will appear on the printer's display. The cartridge should work now.

Note: The front cover needs to remain open during all of these steps

Resolution for MFC-L2730DW and MFC-L2750DW

1. Open the front cover (you don't have to hold it open, you can rest it down so long as it doesn't shut fully).

2. Press and hold the Back and Cancel (X) buttons together for 1-2 seconds, then release. You may have to do this a couple of times for the menu to show.

3. Press the Back button again and the Reset Menu should appear.

4. Select TNR-HC from the touch screen display and select Yes for confirmation.

5. Close the printer front cover.

6. Press the Home button on the printer to return to the main menu. The printer should be ready for printing.

Note: The front cover needs to remain open during all the steps (1-5)

Resolution for DCP-L2550DW

Open the printer front cover.
Press Clear and Stop/Exit button at the same time, release and quickly press Clear one more.
Press the Down arrow button and select K.TNR-HC.
Press OK.
Press the Up-arrow to confirm the rest. An Accepted message should appear on the printer's display. The cartridge should work now.
Close the printer front cover. The printer is now ready for printing.

Note: The front cover needs to remain open during all the steps (1-5)

Problem: Faded Output

Printouts are coming out faded.

Resolution

Remove the toner cartridge from the printer and gently rock the cartridge from side to side. This movement helps distribute the toner evenly within the cartridge.
After rocking the cartridge 5-6 times, re-insert the cartridge into the printer and print a test page.
