Problem: error (replace toner) or error (toner low)
Resolution
- 1. Open the front cover (You don't have to hold it open, you can rest it down so long as it doesn't shut full).
- 2. Press and hold the Back and Cancel buttons together for 1-2 seconds, then release.
- 3. The reset menu will now appear on the LCD screen.
- 4. Use the up and down buttons to select the colour being replaced and press OK.
- 5. The printer display should now show Reset / Exit.
- 6. Select Reset and press OK.
- 7. When the screen displays Accepted, close the front cover.
Note: The front cover needs to remain open during all of these steps
Problem: error (no toner)
The printer is advising that there is no cartridge installed. This error may appear when there is no cartridge installed or if the cartridge has not been installed into the drum unit correctly.
Resolution
- 1. Remove the affected cartridge from the printer.
- 2. Reinsert the cartridge and ensure it is fully installed into the drum unit.
If the problem still persists, please restart the printer.
Problem: error (insert cartridge)
The printer is advising to insert the cartridges. This error may appear when there is no cartridge installed or if the cartridge has not been installed into the drum unit correctly.
Resolution
- 1. Remove the affected cartridge from the printer.
- 2. Reinstall the cartridge ensuring it is fully inserted into the drum unit.
If the problem still persists, please restart the printer.
Problem: streaks or bands down page
Printouts have coloured streaks or bands down page.
Resolution
The Corona Wires may need cleaning, to do this follow the steps below.
- Turn off the machine.
- Take out the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly and place on a clean flat surface with a sheet of disposable paper underneath in case toner is accidentally spilt.
- Clean the primary corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the green tab from left to right and right to left several times.
- Return the tab to the home position so that the ^ images match up if not the pages printed may have a vertical stripe.
- Return the cartridge to the printer, repeat for all other remaining cartridges.
- Close the top cover of the machine.
- Plug the power cord back in to the electrical socket first and then reconnect all cables and telephone line cord (if applicable.
- Turn on the machine.
Problem: coloured spots at 94mm
Printouts have coloured spots at 94mm.
Resolution 1
- Print out 3-4 pages to see if this clears the spots from the pages.
Resolution 2
If the problem is not solved after printing a few pages the drum unit may have some glue from a label stuck on the drum surface in this case clean the drum unit using the steps below:
DCP-L8410CDW & MFC-L8690CDW & MFC-L8900CDW & HL-L8360CDW
- 1. Make sure the machine is in Ready Mode.
- 2. Press Settings > All Settings > Print Reports > Drum Dot Print.
- 3. Press Yes.
- 4. Press and hold the power button to turn the machine off.
- 5. Press the front cover release button and pull open the front cover.
- 6. Hold the drum units green handle, pull the drum unit of the machine until it stops.
- 7. Turn the lock lever counter clockwise until it locks in the release position.
- 8. Use the numbered markers next to the drum roller to find the mark relating to one found on the sheet, for example a Cyan dot in column 2 on the check sheet would mean that there is a mark in the 2nd region on the Cyan drum.
- 9. Hold the edges of the drum unit frame with both hands and place your left thumb on the drum unit gear and roll the drum toward you by hand while looking at the surface of the suspected area.
- 10. Take care NOT to touch the surface of the drum unit except the very edge.
- 11. Once the mark has been located wipe the surface of the4 drum gently with a dry cotton swab until the mark comes off.
- 12. Do not use any sharp objects or any liquids to clean the surface.
- 13. Reinsert the toners to the drum unit and reinsert in to the printer - once the drum unit is in place turn the lock lever to the locked position again.
- 14. Close the machine front cover and turn the machine on.
HL-L8260CDW
- 1. Make sure the machine is in Ready Mode.
- 2. Press ^ or v to select "Print Reports", press ok.
- 3. Press ^ or v to select "Drum Dot Print" press ok - This will print a Drum Dot Check sheet.
- 4. Press and hold the power button to turn the machine off.
- 5. Press the front cover release button and pull open the front cover.
- 6. Hold the drum units green handle, pull the drum unit of the machine until it stops.
- 7. Turn the lock lever counter clockwise until it locks in the release position.
- 8. Use the numbered markers next to the drum roller to find the mark relating to one found on the sheet, for example a Cyan dot in column 2 on the check sheet would mean that there is a mark in the 2nd region on the Cyan drum.
- 9. Hold the edges of the drum unit frame with both hands and place your left thumb on the drum unit gear and roll the drum toward you by hand while looking at the surface of the suspected area.

Problem: faded output
Printouts are coming out faded.
Resolution
- If the print quality is poor, remove the toner cartridge from the printer and gently rock the cartridge from side to side.
- This movement helps distribute to the toner evenly within the cartridge.
- After rocking the cartridge 5-6 times, re-insert the cartridge into the printer and print a test page.
Problem: toner scatter/toner stain
Toner scattered over page.
Resolution
High humidity and high temperatures may cause this print quality issue.
- Replace toner related to the colour affected.
- If the problem continues replace the drum unit.
Problem: coloured spots at 30mm
Printouts have coloured spots at 30mm.
Resolution
The distances between the lines give us an indication of which item is likely to be the cause of the problem.
- If coloured spots appear at 30mm intervals replace the affected toner.
