Problem: Faded Output
Printouts are coming out faded.
Resolution
- If the print quality is poor, remove the toner cartridge from the printer and gently rock the cartridge from side to side.
- This movement helps distribute to the toner evenly within the cartridge.
- After rocking the cartridge 5-6 times, re-insert the cartridge into the printer and print a test page.
Problem: Streaks or bands down page
Printouts have coloured streaks or bands down page
Resolution
The Corona Wires may need cleaning, to do this follow the steps below.
- Turn off the machine & unplug the telephone line cord first disconnect all cables and unplug the power cord
- Open the top cover by lifting up on the handle - when the scanner is open you cannot open the top cover
- Take out the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly and place on a clean flat surface with a sheet of disposable paper underneath in case toner is accidentally spilt
- Clean the primary corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the green tab from left to right and right to left several times
- Return the tab to the home position so that the ^ images match up if not the pages printed may have a vertical stripe
- Return the cartridge to the printer, repeat for all other remaining cartridges
- Close the top cover of the machine
- Plug the machine`s power cord back in to the electrical socket first and then reconnect all cables and telephone line cord.
- Turn on machine
Problem: Coloured Lines across page
Printouts have Coloured Lines across page
Resolution
The distances between the lines give us an indication of which item is likely to be the cause of the problem
- If coloured lines appear at 30mm intervals, replace toner that matches the colour of line
- If lines appear at 94mm intervals, put a new drum unit that matches the colour of the line

Printouts have Coloured Coloured spots at 94mm
Resolution 1
- Print out 3-4 pages to see if this clears the spots from the pages
Resolution 2
If the problem is not solved after printing a few pages the drum unit may have some glue from a label stuck on the drum surface in this case clean the drum unit using the steps below:
- 1. Open the manual feed slot cover
- 2. Using both hands slide/adjust the slot paper guidelines to the width of the paper you are going to use
- 3. Using both hands put one blank sheet of paper in the manual feed slot until the front end of the paper touches the paper feed roller. wait until you feel the machine pull the paper, let it go.
- 4. Make sure that the machine in in the ready mode >press menu>4>8, the screen should say "DRUM CLEANING PRESS START"
- 5. Press "mono start" or "colour start" the machine will pull in the piece of paper and start cleaning the drum unit
- 6. When the machine has finished cleaning Completed appears on the LCD press stop/exit so the machine returns to ready mode
- 7. Repeat steps 3 to 6 two more times using a new blank sheet of paper each time
- Do not use more than one piece of paper at one time as it may cause a jam
- Ensure that the paper is straight and in the correct position on the manual feed slot- If it is not this may cause a paper jam

- If Coloured spots appear at 30mm intervals replace the affected toner
Problem: Page Prints All One Colour
Printouts are all one colour when printed out
Resolution
- Print out is all one colour replace the Drum unit for that colour
Problem: Toner Scatter/Toner Stain
Toner scattered over page
Resolution
High Humidity and high temperatures may cause this print quality issue
- Replace toner related to the colour affected
- If the problem continues replace the drum unit
Problem: Error (Replace Toner)
Brother MFC-9120CN, Brother MFC-9120CN & Brother MFC-9320CW
- Make sure the printer is turned on.
- Open the cover using the blue 'handle' at the front of the machine.
- Press the Clear/Back button on the control panel.
- Press the up or down arrow key to scroll through the list of toners.
- Select the cartridge to reset, then press “OK”
Brother HL-3040CN & Brother HL-3070CW
- Ensure the printer is switched on.
- Open the printer lid to reveal the toner cartridges.
- Press the “secure” and “cancel” buttons together.
- The LCD should display a new menu.
- Use the + and - keys to select the cartridge you wish to reset.
- Press the “OK” button.
- Close the printer lid.
